I am sure it will be put to the vote at the AGM Mark , as for racing for longer than 5 mins I personaly feel going longer you stand more chance of killing a motor than if its just run for 5 mins , I would vote to stay at 5 mins as this seems to be the BRCA standard ....

Please remember when suggesting any changes to the format of racing, that they must be easily managed.

We do not want to have to manually add times - sort out qualifying - etc.
If it can be done through the race program fine, if it can't then sorry - unless you are prepared to do the manual work at EVERY meeting

In which case I withdraw the suggestions, don't want to cause any hassle.

To be honest I just can't perform as well in the best 3 laps qualifying system as I can in the normal 5 min session. And if a combination cannot be implemented then I'm happy to abide with whichever way a straight vote at the AGM takes it.

Have been checking out the Mabuchi 540 motor specifications on the interweb thingy and also looking at some old 540 and 550 motors that are sitting in my garage, and here are the results.

Mabuchi make, and have made, many different versions of the 540 motor. Since it is actually an industrial standard dc motor, they are primarily classified by their output and power consumption rather than the winds, which us R/C racers are far more familiar with.

The coding scheme used by Mabuchi is quite simple, and there are basically 3 types of motor that look very similar externally, and only their code number can identify them.

The RS-540SH series is the one typically used in RC car kits and this comes in 3 versions, the 5045, 8023 and the 6527. Where the first 2 digits describe the wire diameter: 50 = .50mm etc and the last 2 digits the number or turns: 27 = 27T etc. The end bell can also be made of either cast metal or plastic.

You will need to look at the motor label/number to know which you have, the RS-540SH-6527 being the typical one put into the Japanese RTR kits etc....... and is the 27T motor. They do other (and lower wind motors) but these were marketed under a different name. As an example if it is stamped on the end bell 'Made in China - RS540SH - TD079x22' it's a 22 turn motor.

The can finish only designates the motors original intended market, matt tin plate finish for industrial use (cordless power tools, hairdryers etc) and nickel plated for toys, including RC cars.

So as has already been said the Mardave G2 Mabuchi motor is a 25T motor. Similarly the Tamiya 53068 Sports tuned black motor is a 23T motor. And we all know that the lower number of turns on the armature the quicker the motor.

With so many variations on a theme for this motor you'll have to look at the coding on an original kit motor and simply stipulate that this will be the motor accepted for the Mini class to produce a level playing field for all.

I got a cost saving idea !!!!!

How about giving all members & Guests a Number like they do at Lawford Buggy club so we can put that number on our shells when we spray them saving on numbers being handed out every week

When you got a number thats it , it never changes

Example I am number 67 at Lawford so that number is on my Bug all the time ......

Can the computer say high numbers or will it only do 1 to 10 when its calling a start order

Just an Idea

All the suggestions for racing format etc. are great and it's good to see that we are trying to do the best for everyone - but I would prefer it if we do NOT put these to a rule vote at an AGM because whether the proposals stand or fall, we then have to run them for a whole season despite whatever else may change or come along during the course of that season. Surely better to decide just prior to each meeting what format we will be running at the meeting (5 minute/3lap qualifying, 30 lap finals or whatever) and advertise that on the booking in section of the club forum. Everyone will know in advance what format they are entering for and can then prepare accordingly.

As to a proposed Rule changes:-
I do agree with Cutting Edge's proposal to run brushess/27T brushed as our stock championship class. It has worked very well at the STCC, especially where it has been wet and drivers have changed from brushless to brushed to continue racing.
Would still like to see the Open championship held seperate from the Stock as this then gives the opportunity for two champions to be crowned each year!
I also think that Trigati's proposal about applying a penalty for drivers arriving late/not marshalling etc. is excellent and should be adopted without delay.

Funnily enough Paul is already looking at this.
In reality we do not really need to have the numbers on the car, execpt at big meetings.

We believe there is a way on the bbk system, but at the moment the number allocation we think is not large enough.

The numbers at the start refer to the grid position AND the transponder number.

Remember Lawford do not run a timing system so it is easier for them to just call out the "club" number as the car goes past the line, cuts out confusion and cuts the chances of the wrong lap/position being allocated to a driver.

We used a system like this when I started racing back in the late seventies
Viva numero 27
