gearing

what gear ratio is good for coastal i fogot was it about 7.50
CuttingEdge

Depends on the motor what motor are you going to run ?

Stock 27turn is about 6.5 ish

Brushless 13.5 is around the 4.5 mark

Brushless 10.5 is around the 4.9 mark

Can't remember what is about right for 19turn ?????

thanks mate for the advice
markw

the last time i used a 19turn i ran it about 5.1 ish

TREV here is the gear chart i got from GEARCHART.COM were shold i go from there im running 84 spur 28 pinion

the motor stats are
43,920RPM
6,100KV
POWERATING 1 STAR
220W POWER
93% EFFICIENTCY
MEASURED AT 7.2V

If your internal ratio is 1.7, as we discussed on Sunday, then you've got a FDR of 5.1 using the 84 spur and 28 pinion.
To get closer to the FDR most use for 13.5 around Coastal (4.5) then you could instal a 75 spur with the 28 pinion, or put a 31 pinion with the 84 spur. This then gives you 4.55 or 4.60 respectively.

so another pinion it is then i get one before the next race thanks ian does it matter about the rpm with that motor because it was quite hot the last heat i raced????
greyfox

Sorry to appear pedantic, but what does 'quite hot' mean?

At the next meeting whatever ratio you are running, get it out on the track for a few minutes, then bring it back in and we'll measure the temperature with a digital thermometer to get an accurate reading and work out from there what gearing to go to.
CuttingEdge

It was as Hot as you would want a Brushless to get !!!! It could of been undergeared or maybe the old 1Star motors need different gearing to our modern 13.5 's do .............

Id agree with Ian go with the pinion I told you to go with the 31 / 80 combo and try it for 2 and a half mins , check temp

HTH

you couldnt hold it for very long   cause it got a bit toasty
